We fancied a trip to Worcester, so on Saturday we got the train, (£6 each return, not bad. It would have cost a lot more in the car). Worcester is a mix of modern shopping centres that sit happily next to old, old buildings and towering steeples and towers. Given that neither of us are really shoppers, we headed straight for the river and found an advert for a 45 minute cruise. We decided to take it and as we had 20 minutes to spare we went for a cuppa.
The river was not as pretty as we thought it would be, well not the bit we took our trip down, backs of houses lined one side and a race track and buildings the other. There was a lot of bad erosion along the banks in some places trees had simply slid into the river.
From there we took a walk to the Cathedral, it is very beautiful, the workmanship in the tombs is unbelievable. The crypt has some lovely arches. The tower was open so we decided to go up, 235 spiral steps that get steeper and narrower the further you go up, as well as the steps getting narrower so does the gap between the walls. By the time we had got to the top I was on my hands and knees, I took off my coat and threw myself on the floor, heart going like a sledge hammer, bosom heaving and feeling rather sick. When I eventually got my breath back I stood up and the view was spectacular. I must say at this point I was not the only one dieing on reaching the top, and a lot of them were a lot younger than me.

From there we went for lunch at a weather spoons pub. I ordered a jacket potato with 5 bean chilli, I got a jacket potato with baked beans, and by the time they had sorted it out hubby had eaten his lunch. Yes there will be a letter in the post to head office, but I am not holding my breath as to a reply.
